Normand’Hy connects its refinery customer’s power and hydrogen supply
TotalEnergies plans to provide electricity for its share of the electrolyser. Air Liquide has described a different power-procurement route for the remaining capacity.
TotalEnergies’ proposed Normand’Hy supply pairs electricity and hydrogen in one relationship. The company says it will provide around 700 GWh a year of renewable and low-carbon electricity for its 100 MW share of Air Liquide’s 200 MW electrolyser. Hydrogen from that share is intended for the Normandy refinery.
The buyer’s involvement begins with the production input. This gives TotalEnergies a way to connect its electricity supply portfolio with the refinery’s hydrogen requirement. For Air Liquide, that customer-linked share has a different procurement structure from the remaining capacity: its 2023 announcement described long-term renewable power purchases, complemented by low-carbon French-grid electricity, for the other 100 MW.
TotalEnergies’ later article describes planned annual supply of 10,000 tonnes of green hydrogen and up to 5,000 tonnes of low-carbon hydrogen. The company also distinguishes renewable and low-carbon electricity in its supply commitment. Those descriptions make product qualification part of the power-and-hydrogen arrangement.
The 2023 memorandum of understanding targeted supply from the second half of 2026. The Air Liquide project page reviewed in October describes construction milestones; the opened sources do not establish actual deliveries. The disclosed structure gives the refinery a way to align an electricity contribution with intended supplies in two hydrogen categories.
