H2Prism power-price starter exercise Version 1.0.0 | Illustrative inputs in real 2026 USD | PEM | Plant gate What this file does It adds three illustrative cases to the Hydrogen Price Calculator so you can compare electricity prices of 40, 60 and 80 USD/MWh. It is an exercise, not observed plant data, a price forecast or a vendor quote. Other inputs are identical. Start 1. Save power-price-starter.json to your device. Keep it as a JSON file. 2. Open https://h2prism.com/calculators/hydrogen-price/ 3. Choose Import cases and select the downloaded JSON file. Imported cases are added to the saved workspace. If adding three cases would exceed the 50-case limit, the import is rejected and the existing cases are retained. 4. Select each guide case and Calculate, then open Compare. Set Reference case to the imported 40 USD/MWh guide case, select the 60 USD/MWh guide case, and deselect any other cases. The two guide cases have the same production and full modeled costs that differ by 1.10 USD/kg. All of that difference comes from electricity. The electricity-only contributions of 2.20, 3.30 and 4.40 USD/kg appear in each case's cost composition. 5. Duplicate a guide case before entering your own assumptions. Existing saved cases are local to that browser and device. Imported case names receive an "(import)" suffix. Import the exercise once; importing it again adds three more copies rather than updating the original three. Check your units The three electricity inputs are 0.04, 0.06 and 0.08 USD/kWh. A price of 40 USD/MWh is not 40 USD/kWh. Shared assumptions Installed electrical input: 100 MW (100,000 kW). Capacity factor: 50%. System electricity use: 55 kWh/kg gross hydrogen. Installed CAPEX: 1,000 USD/kW. Annual fixed OPEX: 3% of CAPEX. Operating life: 20 years. Project discount rate: 8% real. Construction period: 0 years for this arithmetic exercise. Water use: 9 L/kg hydrogen. Water price: 0.001 USD/L water, matching the calculator's input units. Efficiency degradation, hydrogen loss, stack replacement cost, grid fees, electricity tax, property tax/insurance, price escalation, inflation, decommissioning cost and residual value: zero. Finance stage: Off. No credits or grants. The zero degradation and replacement settings keep the worked arithmetic constant over time. They are simplifications for the exercise and do not represent a project design. Review all inputs before using your own case. Hydrogen sales price is an arbitrary 5 USD/kg placeholder. The calculator also displays pre-tax NPV, IRR and payback based on that placeholder, even with Finance Off. Those figures are not project findings. This exercise compares production cost; replace the sales-price assumption before assessing any project return. Stored finance examples are tax rate 25%, 10-year straight-line depreciation, debt share 40%, debt rate 5%, debt term 15 years and equity discount rate 10%. They are inactive with Finance Off. Review them if you enable Tax or Tax + Debt in a duplicate case. Independent arithmetic checks Annual hydrogen: 100,000 x 8,760 x 0.5 / 55 = 7,963,636.36 kg/year. Electricity cost only: 2.20, 3.30 and 4.40 USD/kg hydrogen. Full modeled cost also includes CAPEX, fixed OPEX and water. Use the calculator's full cost result for that boundary, and the cost composition for electricity alone. Changing only electricity price leaves the production estimate unchanged. Reducing capacity factor in a new case changes annual production and fixed cost per kilogram. Return exercise Keep the three original guide cases, duplicate one and replace the electricity price with your next verified offer. Review whether that offer also changes operating hours, fees or equipment. Reopen the saved case on the same device to update it. Back up important work using the calculator's available export/share options.
